Anovagirl, about exposure in Russia

Posted by Observer on August 25, 2003 at 14:33:37

Before this conversation took a different turn below I very much appreciated the points you raised about the balance between the need to expose the Family's workings in places like Russia yet the need to tread carefully to avoid stirring up draconian government action. If I understand you correctly I think you are for exposing the Family yet want it to be done in such a way that excesses are avoided.

Even in the U.S. the FBI overstepped bounds in Waco, & we've all seen what the Russians did when the Chechnyians took over a theater in Moscow. I think it's maybe exaggerating to think that they'd take such strongarm action against a sex cult operating in their borders but one has to wonder. They're already against any other religious groups besides the Orthodox church & they're looking for an excuse to crack down on non-registered groups inside Russia, & they don't exactly have a long history of fair-minded courts & judiciary under the Communists. If something could be done to expose the Family's fronts in Russia it would be good, but how can the excesses be avoided? I hate to think of the poor Russian kids getting sucked into the cult.
