I think he did the wrong thing. At least he should have just paraphrased it and not used your name and the whole email, but instead he should have said he was quoting a reliable source - if he felt it was that important to vindicate Barney after accusing him. FYI, I already told him that too. He seems to think it would not have been credible then but I also got the impression he would not do that again.
