I absolutely agree that closer scrutiny would be in order if, as is the case, the couple wishing to adopt were affiliated with a group that has as much abuse in its past as TF. The point of my post was to say that the couple should be assessed on their own merits.

Religious persuasion, lifestyle choice, attitudes towards sex, education etc. are all important factors and should be taken into account. I just do not agree that because they are in TF they should automatically be rejected as prospective parents.

I agree that adopted or foster children are more likely to be abused than biological children. I live in a country where many children who pass through the child welfare system end up enduring more abuse at the hands of foster parents than they ever did with their biological ones. It's heartbreaking to see it happen over and over again. In the case of foster parents I think there is a lack of proper screening. Some people just become foster parents for the money. I don't understand why parents who adopt would abuse their children though? Or why any parent would abuse their child for that matter.
