Could some SGs answer this question?

Posted by Oldtimer on December 13, 2003 at 19:32:06

What Jules and Daniel have been telling us the past few days has not been pleasant to read but very helpful. I for one have appreciate what you've had to say, and I think whatever mindcontrol we were under we cannot excuse crinal actions and responsibilities. Now I have a question for any SG who cares to answer. I've read on MovingOn where one of you stated that mindcontrol is an accepted fact and no one contradicted him when he said that. So hopefully no one will think I'm using mindcontrol as an excuse when I say that it had a big influence on us. After all we were sent to fast and pray if we doubted or threatened to have our kids taken away from us if we bucked the stream and we had a daily list of Mo propaganda to read to put the fear of God into us, and if we stuck our heads up too much then we got long reading lists to reindoctrinate us. But although we all were under mind control, what was wrong was wrong the same and we have to accept responsibility now that we're out in the real world.

So my question is did you SGs not feel mind control the same way we did? If so could it be that Berg used the fear of an angry God on us and we had joined believing strongly in God and wanting to serve him? Maybe you guys just had the religion drummed into you ever since you were little, against your will and it never really took. The pressure and fear you felt was from harsh adults who had power over you, but maybe as your grew older you rejected the idea of God so all the fear of curses and accidents and all the fear of failing God wasn't an issue for you? Is that something like what you feel?

I know when you lose faith in God then all the fear of God and God's prophet blah blah becomes so much mumbojumbo. I think I got out from under that fear when I realized I had to get out even if I made God angry, even though I was afraid. But it seems like THAT kind of fear pressure wasn't there for most SGs. Or am I wrong?
