Waking up your conscience

Posted by Oldtimer on December 19, 2003 at 09:58:34

I'm wondering if any FGs have made moves to make ammends to SGs they wronged since Jule's post on the subject? She challenged those who hurt a SG sexually & who are now sorry for what they did and their conscience bothers them to write that SG about it and sign their name to show they're serious .She said that you could say you were sorry if you felt like doing so. I'm wondering if people have been thinking about this since it's not going to go away & those you hurt are probably still hurting. Writing it down and signing it may be a huge step for many people to make and I wonder if the first step would be to apologize and then offer to write the letter if the SG really wants, they may not want the letter after all. They may want healing more than anything. Of course that depends on the person and what happened and some may really want the letter and want to see justice done, but can we talk about this at least?
Maybe some FGs don't take the step because they don't know how much the SGs they hurt have been hurt, and maybe some of you with professional knowledge of what the longterm damage is could educate us all. Jesse below was wondering because he read somewhere that kids who are sexually abused have mental problems later in life, and I don't know if that's true or maybe it's more that when anyone gets to middle age they start going through midlife crisis and processing everything and that's why things come to a head later on. Does anyone like Annovagirl know?
The thing that spurred me to write this was reading how the man who abused Jesse's daughter really ought to apologize, because she's actually forgiven him already even without apologizing. I don't think the path to her door to make ammends can get any easier than that. He's not gonna have any rest I don't think until that happens and my opinion is that he not only needs to apologize to Jesses' daughter but to Jesse too.
