This ceremony, for what it's worth, apparently had Christian origins, like all of our little candles were lit from the big candle (Jesus) and then we were supposed to say the main 'victory' we were happy for that past year (usually, 'Oh I'm so thankful for Dad & the Family') & then we'd say our major wish/prayer for the New Year, often something like, 'I want to be a more yielded vessel' or 'Please vacuum out my brains this year, so I won't think & doubt any more.' OK, just kidding on the last one, but you do get the idea that I no longer do the candle light ceremony don't you?
