Outsourcing and globalization. The Dem candidates talked about NAFTA, etc., with Tom Brokaw on da debates Thursday nite.

Kuchinich (sp), the old-fashioned liberal of the bunch said it best: the new trade system obliterates stuff like child labor, benefits, 40-hour work weeks, etc. Instead of governments and national labor interests, it's multinational corporations.

I, for one, refuse to shop at Walmart. I don't care how low-priced (value-added) the goods are. There are other values to consider: a living wage, basic benefits (health care), and American manufacuturing jobs. I'm not sure this is a "macro" answer, but at the micro level, it works for me.

The Democratic candidates are talking about this issue in terms of macro-scopic answers. I have a feeling you are too conservative to consider voting that way, but give them (the Dems) the benefit of the doubt and at least listen to how they're hashing this issue out. As far as I can tell, jobs, NAFTA, etc, is a non-issue for the Republicans at this point.

More money for NASA? OK, I can support that, but only to a point. We also need more federal money for the national infrastructure (roads & bridges). Guess who's pushing THAT agenda? Al Sharpton, who is, oh-my-gawd, a born-again Christian. Yeah, black folk got god too, Oh don't yah know. (No disrespect intended. I really think you're a pretty smart guy.)
