Context is Everything

I'm glad to know more about the history of this board and how the founders stood up to the bullshit intimidation by some borderline exers to back down on free speech rights.

Some of the stuff that apparently went on was essentially bullying. It does take a long time to get certain behavior patterns under control, and I suspect some folks will never quit thinking and acting like Family even if they're not completely aligned.

There is a line of reasoning I sometimes hear tossed about on this board that disturbs me. It goes something like this: So-and-so does so much good, we really can't hold him/her accountable for the wrong actions or harm s/he has done in this or that particular situation.

This rationale is used to excuse former members as well as those who soldier on as FCF social development workers.

I don't care how much good you do or how saintly your life's work, if you screw up as a consequence of bad judgement, you have a responsibility to admit your mistakes and make amends for the damage done.

Furthermore, you can be saving all sorts of destitute street children from their fate, but if you're associated with an organization that has a history of child maltreatment, you have a responsibility to provide your financial supporters and the general public with an explanation regarding the nature of that relationship.

This is how the real world of personal and public accountability works, and it is 180-degrees different than the way TF does business.
