Well don't forget that the criminally insane megalomaniac did say that He was the Endtime Prophet and the very voice of God for the heavily burdened, downtrodden, beleaguered dregs of society - a generation of kids, yes kids, who hadn't found "it" anywhere else. Is there any wonder that they looked to him for help? Most had never even read a bible. How were they to know that they were to beware of a guy like Berg coming in His (Christ's) name? They were babes. Most didn't even know for weeks, or months, that it was him (Berg) that they were following. And then when they did find out, it wasn't really him at all - it was Jesus through him, or so they thought. Why would all those new babes in Christ question their HG renewals, their newly found Cog parent, the good food, the good music, the good fellowship, in their lives back then?
They had no idea they were following a pervert and about to be slowly being indoctrinated by "revelations" from God Himself - duh! And don't forget, when the question of child abuse came up, it was quickly denied - "I never touched my daughters. Of course we don't do that to our children." It's the boards here that have exposed all that, years after the fact.
