I have heard that there are two versions of what The Family had to say in response to 9/11. One publication is for the general public, particularly aimed at the US market and for those who are sympathetic to the victims. There is reportedly an internal publication for disciples and friends only (DFO) in which the events of 9/11 are revealed as God's judgment on The Great Whore.
If this is the case, then al Qaida would logically be the instrument of God. How that plays out in the mixed-up religious imagination of a sociopath like Karen Zerby is anyone's guess. She's very big on Old Testament "scourge of God" political theology that explains why the destruction of ancient Israel by the heathen Assyrians and the Jews' subsequent captivity by the Babylonians is an historic account of God's perfect will.
I probably read about this DFO publication concerning the "real" meaning of 9/11 at the Movingon.org website. Those folks seem to have a fairly good source of internal publications that get leaked on a regular basis.
