Sorry, Margaret Singer would not agree with you. I don't have the book handy, so I can't quote her. She has a very good chapter in there on why the military is not a cult and what the major differences are. The one that comes to the top of my head is that you do not sever ties with friends and family. You have regular leave and are encouraged to go home. There is also a military tribunal that investigates abuses and such, they have their own court system so that people cannot commit crimes, etc. It goes on. Two of my children were in the military, and one is still an Air Force reservist. They never felt they were in a cult. One dropped out of the reserves when she became pregnant. It's easier to get out than getting out of a cult. All this talk is so stupid, I can't believe I'm seeing it here on this site.
