I have seen some therapists and my belief based on what I learned thru that process is that when a person chooses one, INTERVIEW THEM. To tell the truth, at first I was afraid to. I couldn't hardly look at the person, who ended up being a pretty sick sort. But I learned a lot about basics. Now I see a therapist that is a psychologist who is very friendly and feels comfortable to talk to. She is familiar with domestic violence issues and rape and abuse. Also she is familiar with the damaging effects of abusive cultures. As far as funds, she saw me for free for awhile and now I have insurance and she waives the co-pay. There are people out there like her that are qualified and will work with a person and there are programs that offer grants and provide therapy if you know where to look. Most of the help I have gotten has been low cost or free because I did not have the resources to pay for it. Or paid on a sliding scale fee. I would highly recommend therapy for cult survivors of any age, and think that if one is willing to learn about the cult and has experience with rape abuse and incest, that is a good start. How you FEEL about them is VERY important. Even if it is FREE it is not worth it if the fit is wrong. Hope this helps someone.
