Yes, it was definitely not a policy. But I don't think it was pity as much as it was genuine caring. As I said, that last Home I was in, though the other adults were in some respects the most workaholic and nitpicky about following the "little rules" I had ever seen (!), were genuinely sincere about their Christianity. These other adults had all been in the Family 20 plus years, like me. We were honestly friends.

My point being that I truly believe good people exist within the Family.

But I'm serious about the "retiree vs. backslider" terminolgy and a "severance package." I think it would be their single biggest way of separating out those who don't really want to be there. I know fear of starting from scratch kept me around for many extra years.
