I guess this is so interesting to me because it is always fascinating to see how other people handle the same kind of situation I find myself in from time to time. It's kind of like being a fireman on vacation watching another fire department work.

I have no authority here, so feel free to ignore me...

The thing that people who use message forums have to realize is that all the coordinators and webmasters do is provide empty space. the users fill it up with whatever they want. A board like this just reflects what is going on within the community it is targeted to.

The only thing a Coordinator can really do is give advice, and when guidelines are violated, they can hit the delete key. My experience is that forum users don't like either of these solutions, but it's all we really have.

People really have to take responsibility for how they use the space.

An ex-member said to one of the NDN coordinators recently that he didn't come to the boards anymore because it is the same old people talking about the same old things they talked about years ago.

What would be great is if people who think this is bad/wrong/boring would take responsibility and write some messages with some fresh and interesting ideas we can all discuss.

We are the first generation in the history of mankind to have this sort of powerful, inexpensive means of instant world-wide communication. The Internet is the big deal of our time, and what we are going to be remembered for in history, since all of us were in on getting it off the ground.

That said, it is also true that we pioneers really know how to screw up a good thing.
