some tips on how to use the media

From a friend of mine:

If your goal is to publicize the group's child abuse, I recommend the following:

(1) Submit electronic press releases through online services such as PRWeb (http://www.prweb.com). I utilized this service during the 2004 election to publicize a NJ Rally, and I was very pleased with the results. I paid $10 because our news was time-sensitive. But I recommend you use their free service -- certainly don't pay more than $10.

(2) Personally contact abuse survivor support groups, asking them to issue press releases. If you're reaching out to groups of survivors, you might want to provide a short list of Talking Points that they could mention (in their own words of course) in their letters-to-the-editor of their local papers.

(3) Personally contact professional organizations, and ask them to consider issuing an official press release from their own organization. If you would like a recommendation to get you started, I recommend you reach out to the Sidran Institute (http://www.sidran.org/). AND ask them for referrals to OTHER professional organizations that might be interested in bringing child abuse issues to the public awareness.

(4) Locate individual professionals and academics who are ready and willing to be interviewed by the press on the issue of child abuse and cults (particularly within the context of COG). Include their names and contact info in all press releases (with their express permission only, of course).

(5) The more publicity provided by credentialed professionals, the better. Personally contact them all by PHONE, and also follow up each phone call by EMAIL to thank the person for taking your phone call and to thank the person for his or her interest in taking this opportunity to increase public awareness of child abuse in cults.
