I feel we should be careful about all the speculation -- it's sort of like saying that maybe there is a reason Angela deserved to die. I don't see the point in trying to figure out all the details.
We know the murder was premeditated -- from the tape. Ricky was going to do it one way or another.
We know that Ricky was trying to lure someone to Tucson. He may well have asked Gabe to have Angela call him.
Whatever the reason for going back to the appartment, it's not really important.
Angela did not deserve to be murdered. Ricky was fed up with living and wanted to take someone with him. Sadly, that was Angela.
