I joined the COG in 1970 in LA. There was absolutely no sex involved at that time that would attract anyone. Women and men were basically separated, unless a couple were married within the group. Of course there were sexual relations (sharing a la the law of love) going on with elder brothers and sisters.
We definitely knew what were were talking about when we went out to win souls for Jesus. As far as knowing scriptures - particularly those having to do with salvation - we knew them. That's basically all we did was study the Bible. With the exception of Mo's BS - which we really didn't hear much about in the beginning as he was in hiding even then and hadn't begun writing - the very early years (like maybe 2) were actually pretty pure.
