NFL Charities is still promoting the Family Care Foundation

Posted by ">ManicMoe on February 15, 2005 at 18:44:53

In February 2004, it was reported here that the NFL was promoting the Family Care Foundation on the web site http://www.jointheteam.com/
Since then, the page referring to the Family Care Foundation has changed and they are not listed there any more. The original page which listed the Family Care Foundation was at http://www.jointheteam/getinvolved.asp
Now it is at http://www.jointheteam.com/about/getinvolved.asp
and does not mention the Family Care Foundation.

However, they are still promoted in the NFL's "Volunteer Playbook."

At http://www.jointheteam.com/about/join.asp there is link to download a PDF of the "NFL's Volunteer Playbook."

http://www.jointheteam.com/resources/Volunteer_Playbook.pdf

On page 9 of the PDF (page 14-15 of the playbook), there is a section entitled "So you're ready to get involved...Websites for volunteers"
This is followed by this paragraph:

"Becoming a volunteer can be one of the most rewarding choices you make in life. Most cities, towns and communities in America have service agencies to address the needs of our sick, homeless and hungry residents. There are also hundreds of national organizations looking for volunteers. Below is a partial list."
There are various sections such as General, Children, Family, Community Building, and Volunteer Search Engines. FCF is listed in the Family section along with Senior Corps.

On page 15 (page in the PDF) one finds the following.
Family
8. Familycare - www.familycare.org
Familycare Foundation (FCF) operates projects and provides support and training for grassroots organizations in developing countries.

Here is some contact information if you would like to let them know how you feel about the NFL sponsoring the Family Care foundation and promoting them as an organization that volunteers (including children) should contact to find volunteer oppurtunities.

There is a form to send a message at http://www.jointheteam.com/contact/
