Disjointed thinking

I think there's a couple reasons for Maria's dissonance, maybe three.

1. Maria often complained she had such a bad memory. She could focus on certain things & remember them but stuff she didn't consider important got forgotten quickly.

2. The Family was so flooded with a consistent all-things sex for so many years that the few little warning flags that came up weren't really paid attention to & quickly forgotten. Besides, Berg's early warnings weren't really acted upon. No stop-sex-with-minors policy came out till about 84, 85.

3. Up till the time of Mene, Berg was the only one who had told Maria that child-adult sex considered illegal so no, no, no. Maybe Maria was referring to how she had finally started to hear this message loud & clear from the System. Up till then she hadn't clued in as to how serious it was.
