It was formed about 1972 by one of the parents of Tara a COG member (wife of Woodsman). Yes, Tara's mom was encouraged by the COG to start her newsletters and positive PR campaign to counter the bad publicity of the time. She mailed stuff to parents who were in doubt. I asked her to send a mailing to my grand mother once. It ended rather badly for ThankCOG when some of the people began mailing Tara's mom very negative information and she was overwhelmed.
Stuff ended bad for other COG friends too. What was the name of Brother so-and-so who had a prison ministry in Texas and was, on paper, the owner of Selah, Texas. He was doing OK defending the Family until anti-COG people went after him as the legal owner of Selah and he had to distance himself quickly.
