A lot depends on where you are in North America. I taught ESL for awhile as a private tutor, earning $25/hour and that was without certification. However, I was in a city where many foreignors from all over the world come specifically to learn English. Also, your brother may have a good set-up in Korea, but I've heard some real horror stories of people who've gone there and had bad experiences, bound by long contracts.
