You don't have to be a Christian to forgive someone who is willing to own up and accept accountability for their own actions, and in particular, to extend a helping hand when they need it to see their way clear to taking the necessary steps toward that accountability. I have a good Muslim friend who is the mechanic for my car. I have called him "brother" because he is honest and deals fairly with me when he does his job. He truly is my "brother."
