Jim has all the good will in the world he needs. He's not interested in running for "office" or gathering "support". He's doing what's right by him, even if it does mean he's created enemies. If it wasn't Jim, it would be someone else. He can sleep good at night knowing that he's done what's "right", not what's "popular". You're correct, Jim has no one to blame but himself, that's because he only answers and speaks for himself.
