Don't you suppose that many young Familites who engage in this kind of "for show" activity realize how little of substance they are actually doing? It's really a cushy life, if you think about it. Go places, see people, get your picture made, put on a show of charitable works, get someone to say a two-minute prayer, hop back in your van, sing some songs, get laid, keep on a happy face.
If you read Berg's diary from 1941, you can see this same pattern of shallow, parasitic, self-promoting "service" in the founder's descriptions of his evangelistic ministry at age 22.
