I don't think you can compare the two - it's like apples and oranges. A drunk knows he is drunk and knows that he is endangering himself and others and there is no question about it - society knows this too. Getting drunk and driving is simply irrisponsible. Doing things out of fear or coercion because you think you are doing God service is a whole other enchilada. Look at the recent London bombings, even the families of the suicide bombers were shocked, they had no idea their darling son had become so indoctrinated that they would turn to such actions.
