The notion of 'the opiate of the' as in the 'opiate of the masses' is demeaning and I wouldn't think like that, to be honest.
Additionally, I always am clear - as I said; I can only talk about mental health clients who misuse substances.... what I refer to.
I am a psychologist, not a medical practitioner and so would have a different 'take' on cause and effect. However, as always I am open to learn new things.
I do not know Jellinek and have just searched medline, psychinfo and numerous other electronic research data bases to find the literature. Can you give me a little more info to go by, so I can find the work you refer to; so I can read it please?
