I read the review of your book, "Life in the Family" by your peer (Robert B. Stewart) from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. You know, the ONLY peer review article of your book to be found anywhere in the western world? (As in: The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, 5 #2, Summer 2001, p. 103-104.)

Seems Dr. Stewart was quick to point out that you're dabbling in the social sciences. He seems to think your research method places you in a position to assess The Family "theologically". He didn't have one word to say about your research method putting you in a position to assess child maltreatment in a controlling, high-demand religious group. Wonder why your book reviewer overlooked your obvious qualifications and expertise on childhood sexual abuse?

Seems your peer had some suggestions about what sort of further study is needed to expand your credibility in that little academic frog pond of Southern Baptist theology where you have a reputation to maintain. Seems Dr. Stewart wants you to ask pesky questions like, “Does the group’s ‘simply praying the sinner’s prayer and you’ll be saved,’ approach to evangelism reflect
a latent Antinomianism within The Family?”

Well, isn't that interesting? If you published a study that attempts to answer a question like that, how long will The Family International keep referring the media to you as one of their "unbiased" experts? Would you have a little conflict of interest going on vis-a-vis The Family that makes it difficult to do credible, legitimate work as a Baptist theologian?

Oh well, you can keep trying to pass yourself off as an expert on child abuse in media interviews. No one in your little frog pond is likely to notice what you're up to. Unless, of course, some "disgruntled former member" decides to submit a scholarly response to your book for publication in the Southern Baptist Journal of Theology.

(Note to Canuck Apostate Detractor who likes to gobble up Christians and spit them out: Didn't I see an unpublished journal article called "Response to James Chancellor" laying around the house somewhere?)
