yes, I've heard that too, that both the Clinton adminstration and Bush adminstration cut the funds. The fact is, you can't trust government anyway - that's always been obvious. I'm sure more will come out about what went out as we go on. Maybe what I heard could relate to environmentalists pushing the adminstrations, they do pack a lot of power, believe it or not.

As far as the green house effect - I recently read an article in the July 18 issue of the National Review entitled, "Hot Enough for You?" by Jerry Taylor. The author talks about scientists and their so-called findings. I'll quote a little bit of it for you:

"the first (and sometimes last) stop in the global-warming debate is the question, Is it real? The answer seems to be yes. Ground-based and oceanic temperature records show warming of about 3 quarters of a degree Celsius in the last century. About half of that warming, however, occured before WWII and is widely thoght to be related to solar activitiy. Satellite and weather-balloon records, which do not go back as far, show less warming in the late 20th century than thte land-based stations.

What's causing this warming? We don't know. As the VP of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Yury Izrael, wrote bluntly last month, "There is noproven link between human actiivty and global warming." Given the extreme variability of global temperature, warming might simply be statistical noise. It might result from solar and/or volcanic actiivty. It might be caused by industrical emissions. and it might come from some combination of the three."

Anyway, he goes on about how scientists talk in terms of "likely" and "unlikely" - there is nothing concrete going on in these findings and that there is so much that is unkown.

Also, I read a review on Michal Crichton's new book about global warming and it was quite an eye opener.

I just don't believe there is anything set in stone and besides, no one knows what the effect of this slight jump in celsius would be anyway.

And did you know that the area that was just hit with this #4 hurricane had less of these large numbered hurricanes in 2000-2004, I believe, than it did in years before? It would be so nice if people had more informed geographical and historical data before they spout off stuff as if it is the absolute.
