Yes, I heard about them. They interviewed some of them in tears yesterday. They were in a small group attempting to walk out of town and were on I-10. One had not slept since Sunday and they were not just dealing with complete exhaustion but feelings of guilt that their patients were also "left behind" to die. Tulane hospital was finally evacuated at least in part, but the charity hospital, Mercy hospital just could not get people out. Maybe today will be different, but there is a death toll there from the delay as well.
One load of critical patients had been loaded up on a boat, a few with spinal fractures, and taken from Mercy to nearby Tulane hospital to be evacuated only to be turned back to Mercy.
I agree that this was an unprecedented catastrophe, but the time it took Bush to come off vacation to tour the area is inexcusable imo. Even republicans like Frist were critical of it.
