for the compliment? I think it was a compliment, anyway, hehe. And I think I know who you are. Thank you. Yes, I'm very hard headed and stubborn and yes, it kept me alive in some of the most horrible circumstances. And you're right about my children.

However, I think my daughter is also her father's daughter and he has a really tight grip on her - worse, she married someone in TF almost exactly like her father. I have little hope. Though I will continue to pray, after all - I did get away from her father in spite of his cemented grip.

I think this whole hard-headed business is actually genetic, or a good part of it. When reading my grandmother's story, I see she went through a lot of situations like I did, although under a different set of circumstances and a lot more dangerous, of course, with much greater heartaches and tragedies.

As a child, I remember watching her walk down the hallway in her home pointing her finger at my grandfather and rattling something off in Turkish at him that no doubt was something she was really ticked off about. She would get so fired up. All the while, he'd be walking away from her waving her off with a brush of his hand, apparently, speechless at her incessant harranging. The sweetest woman, but don't get her riled up. Now when I read her story that I recently got translated, I think I know what she might have been saying to him :)))) Imagine this coming from a woman raised in a strictly male-dominant, patriarchal society/culture.

And there's my mom - she was what I considered way ahead of her time in being an assertive woman. Geese, now that I think about it, no wonder I got into so much trouble in high school.
