But with regard to recruits to TF in its early days, most were teens and in early twenties. Sure, there were people whether hippie or not that did stupid and abusive stuff. But in my idealistic teen mind at the time, I saw hippie as "love, peace, smoke a little pot but don't do alcohol as it makes people violent..wear certain styles of the day and go to high school classes."
Because I was barely 18 when recruited and just out of high school. Taking a break in the summer and getting lost in the streets of New Orleans and then Los Angeles.

While in my senior yr in high school I had a friend who was a girl on the drill team that went on to become a professional pool player. She smoked pot too as did cheerleaders and the valedictorian.
The point I am making is that "dirty hippie" is who Berg tried to blame for his sexually deviant appetite for children and sexploitation. In reality that was Berg's scapegoating adherents for his own deviant doctrines he tried spreading and that the media caught onto and so he had to cover his a##.
It seems to be popular to view FG earliest followers as deviant dirty hippies when in fact Berg was never a "hippie" but a dirty old man with an appetite for destruction.
