Satire is a powerful art, which takes practice like anything else. Grandpa's Ghost on this site has got it down pretty good.

Interesting you choose the phrase "valley people", btw. It conjures up particular memories of when I first came into contact with the COG in their early days. One of the illustrated tracts (before MLs were distributed) they first gave me that heavily influenced my naive young mind was called Mountain Men, I think. The theme was climbing the mountain of freedom and enlightenment, leaving the valley people behind in their desperate and sinful lives. I just needed to attach myself to their "life line", they said, and they'd save me from that dead-end life. It had even more impact given that I lived in a small mill town surrounded by mountains on all sides, with absolutely no desire to stay there mired in that kind of life. Ripe for the pickin', so to speak.
