I know what you mean. I've learned a lot recently in therapy that helps explain much of my behaviour and health problems since leaving the cult in '91. I'm far better off in the short time I've been getting professional help than in the 13 years previous to that, even though I had achieved a certain measure of success, depending on how you define that.
I couldn't agree more with the sentiments recently expressed in a post here by John Jr., I think it was, to the effect that just because someone appears successful and together on the outside doesn't necessarily mean all is well with them.
