What I mean is that it is an American tendency to place heterosexuality/homosexuality as an either or, as in the US sexual orientation is strongly associated strongly with identity politics. So heterosexuals who have had gay experiences do not talk about it and (mostly) gay people do not mention occasional hetero activity.
There are cultures where most gay people do not have to strive to assert their 100% gay-ness, as it is not a big deal. Here the social construction of gender is a lot tighter.
I think Kinsey got at least this one thing right.
