Berg had the moral standards of a reptile

I was going to compare him to a pig, dog, or hyena, but that's an insult to the mammalian brain, which is hardwired to take care of its young. Some male mammals--like lions--will kill the offspring of other males to give their own offspring a competitive edge. Maybe that fits Berg--he seemed to like wearing a lion's head--but in a spiritual sense, one could argue he devoured his own young, or at least attempted to.

A few reptiles care for their young, but for the most part, the little ones are fair game for hungry adults. Adult males don't provide any protection or nurturing. That's pretty much how Berg operated: cold-blooded, like the mammalian part of his brain never fully developed.
