Because the Zablocki article linked to above is very long, it might be easy for some to miss Zablocki's "Theory of Brainwashing in Charismatic Groups" taken verbatim from Chapter Five of Zablocki and Robbins, Misunderstanding Cults, Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2001 (Pp. 182 - 193), which he includes in the Appendix at the end of the online article.
That chapter is probably what you're referring to, excog. For a quick read, just scroll down to the bottom and read his theory. If you have the time, it's well worth reading the entire debate.
