Women are equally as capable as men of oppressive, manipulative, deceitful, exploitative behavior. You'll get no argument from me on that.

Berg's "genius" was his ability to tap Zerby's lust for power. He used her to influence other women in the group as the model of a "successful" disciple, while she used him to grab onto and hold power. Zerby kept her position by always appearing to be 100% submissive to every last one of Berg's perverse whims. Look--she's the most humble person on the face of the planet! It's that iron fist in a silk glove thing.

It's also like the old plantation system where a few of the slaves were raised up to be overseers to the other slaves. Give a few of the slaves a little power and praise for their loyalty, and watch how they emulate the master by keeping the others down and in their place! Women can be the worst enemy of other women, and Zerby is a despicable bitch. The notion that it's OK to take someone else's mate really irks me. Zerby's mindset was: If power comes from getting the top dog, then screw my sister, her kids, or anyone else standing in the way, I'm going to take the top dog.

But it's important to keep in mind that without Berg, Zerby's rise to power might not have taken place. She needed a man to get to where she is.

This may be where TFI is different than Paulk's church. From what I've seen and read about Paulk's group, women were never placed in positions of power the way they are in TFI.
