Is this a serious new direction?

Even if it is a new trend in therapy it seems off-kilter to me, especially as relates to those raised in the Family. Sure, I can understand that therapists are fed up with many bitching Americans raised in normal homes & blaming their parents for everything, but it seems crazy to disregard one's childhood when people have had a truly traumatic past.

Even in the case of an 'alcoholic mother' I can't imagine any AA counselor who'd agree that that background has so little bearing on a person's problems that it's not even worth discussing.

I understand the point of needing to move on from the past, but imo, dealing with the past is an important first step, for fgs and sgs both.
