suicide poll revisited

Posted by porceleindoll on March 23, 2006 at 04:33:10

Due to technical errors we have had to redo the poll. I'd like to re-invite you to take the poll, if you feel so inclined.

Here are the poll questions:
1. I am an FGA/SGA
2. I have/have never contemplated suicide
3. If yes then: before/while in/after TFI

There is no request for any personal information whatsoever. There is an IP filter in order to prevent one person from voting more than once as our previous poll wasn't effective in preventing someone from voting several times (in other words, someone went in and voted over and over, causing a distortion in the numbers).

This poll is absolutely mandatory.

The purpose of the poll:

A recent discussion on suicide came up at Health Matters. A few people in the discussion wondered if the subject was sort of taboo and if any other ex-members had considered it or not. From my observations, it is more openly discussed in the SGA groups, rarely in the FG groups. I don't know the reasons for this, except maybe the FG group seems to have stronger Christian beliefs, and suicide is highly frowned upon in both the Christian and western societies. That's my only guess right now.

I simply want to take a testing of what the FGs have gone through concerning their own personal suicide feelings, to assure those who might have that they aren't alone, to bring it out in the open, to perhaps provide support for anyone feeling suicidal.

In the past few years at least 5 young people I personally know and 1 FG have committed suicide. For me this is a real subject, it is something I've personally come close to recently, and something that happens in the society I live in, as well as the peer group I grew up with.

For those of you who doubt the NDN intentions with this poll, there are no other intentions. I won't take the poll down, but noone has to vote if they mistrust myself or the intentions I have with the poll, or feel that I am not able to be trusted. Of course, I'd feel badly to know any of you felt that way about me, but again, not all of you know me and might feel uncomfortable about even answering a short poll on a sensitive subject.

Regards!
