what would you have done?

just an hour ago i heard yelling outside my window & saw a man & a woman about 20 years old, arguing on the side of the road at the end of my driveway. he was trying to hug her & she was plenty upset & yelling. she walked away, he grabbed her hand & tried to hug her again. she kept walking & he walked after her. i didn't interfere because it was pretty much a private quarrel so far.

but 10 minutes later they're back in front of my driveway & this time she's screaming so i look out & she's down on the ground & he's kicking her. i immediately got on my shoes & looked for the cellphone to call 911 but couldn't find it so i went out anyway & shouted at the guy, 'what the hell are you doing?' by this time the young woman's back on her feet & the guy swears back at me. i shouted, 'i've called 911'. (i hadn't yet.)

i was about to go up & get in the guy's face when suddenly the girl walks away & the guy starts walking after her. she goes into a public area where there are people around so i didn't follow. should i have? i don't know. i believe she was safe at that point but i don't know.
if she had stayed right there at the end of my driveway & needed my help i'd have been there & would've gotten into a fist fight if need be, but when i said i'd called 911 she walked off. i really suspect drugs was involved.

i later found the cellphone & walked all around the neighborhood looking for them checking if she was ok, but they were gone.i'm glad i went out there at least & challenged the guy. it's the least i should have done. but should i have done more? what do you think? after being in the Family & not standing up to injustice enuf then, this is a big question i have.

i never get in fights of my own, i'm a quiet peaceful guy over 50 but i have a tendency to step in when i see kids being picked on in public, or a woman being threatened.
