I didn't mean to imply that what you did had an effect, only that it was not the smart way to do it and you got lucky even if it was the right thing in your eyes.
Also, when you call the police and explicitly say that is is an emergency, they will make it an emergency. Then again, there are all kinds of police departgments and police officers.
