There is a very good movie that covers that subject from the view point of the kids called 'Swing Kids'. Set in Hamburg pre-war, it tells the story of a group of kids into swing music and jazz (which was not considered appropriate for Ayrians - it was the music of blacks and Jews).
If you like a bit of swing band music, you'll love this movie - plus it has the sobering images of what the german society allowed to happen to them and their children.
