My first reaction is that that recipe contains a tremendous amount of sugar, especially if trying to shed a few pounds. Sugar is sugar, no matter what source it comes from.

Personally, I would stick to one large carrot and one apple, skip the orange and try to add more veggies. I add cabbage everytime because it is high in vitamin c and contains many other beneficial, cancer fighting phyto-chemicals. Cabbage is also relatively cheap. Of course, if you don't like the taste of your juice you're more likely to give it up, so you gotta find a combination you enjoy. I just think you should be careful about drinking too much juiced fruit because as I said sugar amounts can really start piling up when you add all the other foods you eat that either contain sugar or the body converts to sugar.

I also don't think much of fasting, cleansing or fad diets. Evidence of their effectiveness is disputable. More often than not any weight lost due to those temporary practices returns quickly. Imo, it is much better to make permanent diet and lifestyle changes that help you get within 10% of your ideal body weight.

Juicers are quite cheap. I bought mine half a year ago for just $20. It was the cheapest model, Oster, but works fine.

Btw, on your previous experiment with brocolli. You said it over-powered the other ingredients and wasn't very palatable, probably because you used too much. I was thinking more about that, and what I usually do is just juice the stalks, using the florets in stir-fry, etc. So I might just use one large or two small stalks thrown in with all the other stuff. But again, I'm kind of weird in that I really like the taste of veggies. My two cups of juice, before I stir it all up, has a brilliant array of colors: purple, red, orange, green. The more colors the better.
