This is a topic that you'd have to research a bit about. But I found this interesting article and here is something my dad told me, as he has done a lot of work on 'losing fat'.

You have to raise your heartbeat to a certain point for at least 20 minutes, anything before 20 minutes is NOT losing fat, and if your heartbeat isn't up to that rate, it's not losing fat either. After the 20 minute point, you are losing fat, but you still need to get the hearbeat up to that point and keep it up there. That's why jogging and jumprope are very good, and swimming, cause they raise the heart beat.

Something too that she could try drinking is the Chinese Ooolong tea which has been documented to break down inner organ fat, and has a lot of health benefits. But it does contain caffeine. Perhaps she should look into teas to add to her diet that would help break down fats.

And then there is the point about acceptance, and realizing just how far your body will go vs. where you are in life. Women naturally have an extra layer of fat as compared to men, and I always remind myself that my husband would rather be in bed with something cuddly then a bunch of bones.
