I suppose all of us would agree with you that REAL LOVE and faithfulness belong together, but I wonder. Remember Peter...? An important part of this conversation could turn religious but also it does not have to include it. There is enough, even in biblical accounts of infidelity, to look at it with secular eyes alone.

Don't think I am minimizing God. I am trying to respect what appears to be the original poster's intention. But in fact, there may be much to gain by examining this topic from a secular perspective. After all, we are well versed on religious (read Christian a la Berg) views and some of us have more or less been cleansed from that crap so we have also been enlightened away from its pervase ends. Religion might have bright light bulbs (all of them?) but there are more lights out there.

Under this train of thought I would advance that there is enough evidence in the negative social, psychological, generational, even economical effects of infidelity.
