I didn't know what to think of Kelly's post. Maybe s/he was saying the abuse hasn't ended in TF, it just ends with the youngest current member.

Probably true where emotional abuse is concerned. I wouldn't be too happy if my grandchildren were growing up in that environment. In fact, I'd pray daily for the deliverance of the 3rd and 4th generation if God put that burden on my heart.

There's a recent news release put out by the American Psychiatric Association reviewing a line of research that demonstrates the long-term impact of emotional abuse, particularly name-calling. Big news in the world of trauma research.

Old Bottle & Selfish Systemite come to mind as Family names for Stupid Fool & Born Loser. Did you hear enough name-calling & demonization in TF to mess up the stuff between your ears for the rest of your life? I did growing up, and TF just added another layer, brief as my stay was.

According to the study, the lasting damage from emotional abuse is more profound for many people than damage done by sexual or physical abuse. I think we're just beginning to get a handle on what constitutes emotional abuse and the consequences of major, lasting damage to the brain's limbic system.

If you're interested, I'll post a link to the news report of the study so you can read it for yourself.
