My parents didn't give up on me, either. They had unconditional love, and in fact, visited in just about every home we ever lived in. They even came to Europe to see us so they wouldn't lose contact. We visited them more often than most Family members visited their families. I was in the Family from 1973 until 1990 with my husband and 6 of their grandchildren.
It wasn't until many years after I left that I understood that my parents were not really supportive of our life as I had always thought, they were just afraid to lose us into the group and prayed for the day we would be out of there.
They loved us through the good and bad. I am so happy to hear that you have developed better communication with your family members. Prayer is what works the best.
