For me cults like Scientology don't distress me nearly as much as some others, because they let their kids go to normal schools, they believe in helping them get a higher education, etc.

So when it comes to abhorrence for other cults I'm discriminating. The Fam's record on sexual, social, physical, and financial abuse is criminal and puts them at the top of the list. Warren Jeffs sounds like Berg's twin.

From what I've heard the main charges against Scientology deal with financial abuse. At least, that's what's gotten them into court here in Europe.

Back in the early 90's Scientology lawyers gave advice to Family lawyers. I don't know if the Family paid for it or not. Family leaders had some contact with Scientology leaders too. But it seems to me that even though there was some counsel given, the Scientologists kept themselves at a certain distance and did not implicate themselves in direct defense of the Family. I wonder if there's still any commiseration.

I rented a Cruise DVD last week, and wondered if I'd enjoy it or not. So I was kind of testing myself. I really didn't know if the knowledge I have of Cruise being a scientologist would have an effect on me in viewing Cruise at work as an actor. And it didn't, at least last week it didn't, I enjoyed the movie anyway. Same with a good Travolta movie, I still enjoy them too.
