From what the newspaper article says, Prendergast is teaching foundational, prerequisite courses that every sociology major has to take in order to sign up for advanced level courses. He isn't being paid to teach sociology of the family or sociology of religion.

Here's the course description for The Family: "Social structure and changing functions of the modern family. Relationship of family to other social institutions. Family roles and interaction. Satisfies G.E. area F3. Prerequisite: SOCL 1010 or consent of instructor." (Fall, Winter, Spring)

This Stan State class on sociology of the family is vanilla, generic coursework. It's a 3000-level course that a sophmore might take. The pre-requisite SOCL 1010 is a foundational course called Intro to Sociology, which is one of the three courses Prendergast teaches. He's also teaching methodology and theory. These are the kind of courses that regular tenured faculty don't want to be bothered with.

It seems to me the guy is trying to make a living as a grunt wage slave at the lowest rung of academia. Is Prendergast some sort of Family leader? Could his current status be something like MM or whatever the term is for folks who tithe but live at a lesser standard of "sacrifice" than Family Disciple?

Maybe from the standpoint of a rogue group like TFI it's a B.F.D. that one of their tithing members is an instructor at a community college in Modesto, California, but from the standpoint of the System and the world of higher education, he's a virtual nobody.
