I think it has much to do with their (leaderships) delusions of grandure. You see (acording to them), "its not me getting angry - its God through me". "Since I'm Gods mouthpiece and you're not, that makes my anger OK".
The reality is though that they just couldn't stand anyone else being right - its a power thing really, and control mechanism.
